Anytime I do an event, and especially when I do tarot readings for clients, there are two questions I get most often: How do I know that it's my intuition, and how can I develop it? Before I can answer those, let me tell you a little about what intuition is...and what it isnt.
Intuition is not a rare gift. Everyone has it. Some ignore it, some develop it, and some have no idea what it even is. This isn't anyone's fault; it is something that many people aren't taught much about. Intuition is often referred to as a gut feeling. It will let you know when something isn't right. It is an instinct. It will also let you know when something is definitely a "hell yes!"
Intuition is also not the same as being psychic or being an Empath.
So why do some people have stronger connections to their intuition than others? As I said above, it isn't something people are traditionally taught to use or connect with. By the time we're adults, there are a number of reasons why we're cut off from our intuition:
1. Your ego keeps you from listening
2. You've spent years learning to be "rational"
and ignoring anything outside of that
3. Anxiety or depression
4. You do not trust yourself
5. You feel disconnected from yourself
The good news is that you can still develop your intution, learn to know the difference between intuition and ego, intuition and anxiety, and how to trust yourself.
So where do we go from here?
When you're learning to develop your intuition, there are several things you can do.
1. When encountering a situation, pay attention to the very first feeling you have.
If you can, write them down in your phone, in a notebook, whatever. Even if you
find yourself rejecting your initial feeling, write it down anyway. Because we
have developed many kinds of mental programming over the course of our lives,
this can be a little difficult. No worries, you can keep practicing.
2. Pay attention whenever you find yourself saying, "I knew it!" This will help you
become more confident in your intuition, and teach you to trust yourself.
3. Don't be embarrassed by those initial feelings. People will tell you to stop being
paranoid, or don't get too excited. Ignore them. Acknowledge YOUR feelings.
4. Meditate. There are great guided meditations on YouTube if you're like me and have a
difficult time doing this most days. Meditation will allow you to sit in the quiet and
be present in the moment. As much as we like to think that we are all the time,
we're not. There are too many distractions, like our phones.
5. Always be aware of your surroundings. If you want to increase and develop your
innate intuitive abilities, you have to actually know what's going on around you.
Remember, when trying to determine if you're feeling is anxiety or intuition, remember that anxiety comes from a place of fear. It took me some time to realize that in myself. Anxiety is restrictive, and it focuses on the past or the future. Intuition is only focused on the moment.
Here's where you come in. What are your best tips for developing intuition? What has helped you? What would you like to know more about?
I'm going to finish this cup of coffee and I'll see you in the comments!
